Prolife

So, a good friend of mine (@nhprman on twitter) sent me this link and asked my opinion on this.

My opinion is that in the Prolife community we have failed to adequately educate our children, our congregations, and anyone in the movement when it comes to these types of questions. So, I have decided, for the first time, to put my Prolifeness on paper. A credo, of sorts, on what I believe.

1. Our creed has got to be, life for children, support for mothers, and shut down the big abortion industry.

It is all about allowing children grow up without being killed. If liberals go after big oil and corporations for global warming? Why don't we take a page from them and go after the real excrement of industry, the doctors, groups, and associations that target, recruit, and ultimately perform abortions?

I believe that life begins at conception...period. This isn't above my paygrade, it isn't theological or medical or scientific. I KNOW when I became a father. That was when me and my wife conceived our first child. From that moment on, I was a dad. Every decision I made had her, my daughter, in mind. It REALLY IS that simple. That said, as a church community and as a prolife community, we have to do a better job at supporting mothers. We need to provide funds and financial incentives for mothers to keep their children. If an unwed mother came up to you in Walmart and said, I would keep my baby, but I have no place to stay. Would you offer your spare bedroom? I can honestly say that I would. Heck, I would offer her MY bedroom and sleep on the floor if that meant that a new life could be spared. (And yes, my wife and I have agreed that this is one thing that neither of us have to ask the other for permission, we feel that strongly about it) We need to make the mothers our target of love, and expose the abortion industry for what it is. An industry founded on peddling death for hire.

Prolifers need to understand that if Abortion, as a procedure, were made illegal, prosecuters should be instructed to go after the doctors who perform the abortions. They should be stripped of their licence, fined $500,000 per occurance (that money should go into a federal adoption fund), and face up to 5 years in jail. We should use racketeering laws to go after the industry as a whole as well. The person who receives money to recruit the woman is just as guilty as the doctor. The left may call this a gag rule, SO BE IT, divorce attorneys don't offer murder for hire as a solution to marrital atrimony, doctors and consultants shouldn't be allowed to offer abortion as an alternative and then profit from it.

2. Don't call me prolife, I am anti-abortion

We need to change the rules of the game, I cannot call myself prolife when I support capital punishment and blowing terrorists to sheol, just as much as someone cannot call themselves prochoice when they don't support vouchers, gun ownership, or free markets. Truth is, I am Anti-abortion, I hate abortion, loathe it, it is immoral, impractical, and stupid. I want someone from the other side to tell me they are pro-abortion. From this step forward, they are NOT prochoice, that sounds so NICE. Something that shouldn't be afforded to people who hunt and recruit women so they can profit off of incest, bad choices, and murder. Most Americans who say they are prochoice state that wouldn't be a choice for them. What does that tell you. They aren't proabortion, they are antiabortion, most of them are just unsure of what would happen to women if abortion were made illegal. I say, nothing, the industry needs to suffer. So what if the media calls us anti-abortion, isn't everyone? It isn't like we are unabashedly anti-abortion with NO alternatives. We do, adoption, mentoring, community, finances, we provide it all. The number one adoption agencies, anti-abortion, the number one pregnancy centers offering mentoring and community, anti-abortion. Don't allow the opposition to trap you inside a box.

3. We need to think and live outside of the box!

Roe v. Wade will not be overruled for a while, so instead of marching and praying for this to happen (and that being the only thing we do). Let's use every legal avenue at our disposal to stop abortions. I think that Big Abortion should pay taxes, a majority of the providers are, catch this, non-profits. That is right, they don't pay a DIME for the profits they make. If we expect big tabacco and big oil to carry their fair share of the burden, the abortion community should as well. They should all pay property taxes on the clinics, in fact, they should pay more. They should fall under EPA scope for proper elimination of human remains. This should be the most heavily regulated industry in the United States to ensure that those women are protected even if they make the wrong choice. I want to hear Nancy Pelosi say she opposes regulation of an industry with a straight face.

That is it, my three points on how we can and should operate as the anti-abortion community.

It's All About the Grassroots Stupid!

I am sick and tired of my fellow conservatives scanning the landscape looking for a conservative Obama. A messianic conservative who will leads us all to the promised land just like Reagan. It is these conservatives, a lot of them from the DC area, who do not have a solid understanding about what brought Ronald Reagan to prominence.

Ronald Reagan did not come to prominence because people believed that he was a messianic figure who would solve all the problems of the world. He was a product of the grassroots. Millions of conservatives looked in the mirror each morning and they saw a conservative who believed in the principles of the movement. In Reagan, these grassroots saw a reflection of their own beliefs through his actions and words. Reagan's rise to prominence was not a messianic rise, it was a grassroots statement that their beliefs mattered and they elected the person who best represented those views.

The problem with looking for a Messiah, is that you invariably end up making value judgements on personality not substance. This is what has happened to the Republican party. Instead of voting for people who matched our values, the party started pushing candidates who could win. Win they did, but at what cost. The grassroots was disinvited from the party, and these new representatives failed us miserably on every issue from No Child Left Behind to Medicare Part D to TARP to spending to earmarks. Then during election years they would go back to the grassroots and ask for our support. The game ended in 2006 when we started realizing the error of our ways and just stayed home.

So, it is that I implore my fellow conservatives and party members. We will NEVER get another Reagan if we vote for a Messiah. Whether it be Palin or Jindal or Huckabee, we have to start voting for the candidates who reflect our views and reflect what we see in the mirror each morning. It is then and only then that the Reagan will come along. Will we lose ground at first, especially as the national leaders fail to recognize the gig is up? Yes, but will we be stronger at the local level? Yes. Will we start becoming more energized? Yes. Will we be empowered? Like never before because now everyone's vote actually starts to count!

We have to organize as conservatives, the grassroots is highly disorganized and don't count on the RNC to try and organize it any time soon. They, for the most part and dependent on the outcome of January 30th, are still focused on solely winning at all costs...period. What they have done over the last ten years is systematically destroy the grassroots involvement and input. As a result, our bench is so sparse of quality candidates. Inevitably, some beltway hack will point to "several" quality candidates, forgetting that we need 535+ quality candidates at the Federal level, not to mention all of the other races across the nation. That several just doesn't cut it. Even IF America wanted to return Congress and the Senate to the hands of Republicans, I honestly don't think that we have the grassroots and lower level support to support that effort. I started Cincinnatuscoalition.com to try and accomplish this.

We have to stop listening to the Beltway and Manhattan conservatives who tell us how it is. Where were they during the 08 primaries? Sitting on the sidelines for the most part allowing the media to choose our nominee. This means, stop giving money to the DC organizations that "promise" victory in 2010 and giving money to the candidates we support directly. Forget the NRCC and the NRSC, are they going to spend money in New Jersey on that pro-choicer they have made into a poster child? You don't know and neither do I. Give it to the candidates. Slatecard.com is an excellent resource among many to allow the grassroots to give money directly to candidates.

In short, we have to as conservatives rally among ourselves. Stop waiting for the next conservative leader to step up. Get involved, start fundraising, start building, the next leader is the person you look at each morning in the mirror.

The Inherent Dangers of the CPSIA

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 could, come February 10, send hundreds of thousands of small businesses who make boutique items for children, out of business. Yes, that includes my wife's business as well. www.sugarsweetbowtique.com Before everyone accuses me of mass histeria, it is important to understand that these threats are very real. My wife and I know all too well. We have spent the last couple days scrounging for loopholes that just aren't there. And if we find a loophole and we are found in court to be wrong? Thousands in fines and up to 5 years in jail is enough to make anyone squirm. Yet, no major conservatives seem to care, after all, we have more important things to blog about, like the incoming RNC chairman. Right now, for my family, I could care less.

For those who feel that congress will care? Let's just say every one of them, except Rep. Ron Paul, voted for the measure. So, members of the right better be issuing mea culpas and coming to our defense or else why should any small business owner feel that the Republican party or conservatives actually care about them. My wife make's hairbows. The ribbon is lead free, but that isn't good enough come February 10. We will have to prove that it is lead free. To be compliant, we not only have to test the hundreds of spools of ribbon individually, but also as a collective bow. Since we don't have the purchasing power to buy in extreme bulk, each shipment of ribbon has to be tested as well. Even if the ribbon companies provided certification of lead free (which they aren't required to and most likely will not) we still have to test each bow type. The cost for us? At the low end $400 (assuming the manufacturers give us cert.) the high end $1200 per bow! We sell bows for $4-8. You can see the problem. A friend of ours who sells doll clothes...done. Another who sells cloth diapers...done. A children's book store in Wisconsin to a homeschooling kit company...done. This is not hysteria, in fact, the people who are claiming that life will go on as usual don't have my mortgage or our dreams.

I AM NOT ASKING FOR A BAIL OUT. In fact, I don't want a darned thing. I just want to be able to have my wife operate her business like she has for the last year.

In fairness, the CPSIA was designed to prevent the Mattels of the world from getting lead based toys from China. Great! But why do we have to prove the lead free thing? In fact, the Mattels of the world are so big they are the only ones who can afford this. While their competition goes out of business. Were we trying to help or hurt Mattel, the big bad corporation? Liberal laws, no matter how good natured lead to corporate empoyerment and small business hell. The fact that the "conservatives" in congress voted for the thing as well only makes it more difficult a pill to swallow. #CPSIA on twitter to join the conversation. This needs to be a conservative conversation! If not? They better not ask me for a DIME in 2009 and beyond...period. Why? I won't have the dime to give them, and hopefully...I will find a dime to feed my kids.

Sue Easy Dot Com

Yes, the website actually exists! After reading the rediculous claims and the nature of the website, I filed my own "class action lawsuit" on it. View it here. Heck, sign up and join the lawsuit. Forward it to everyone you know. I think it would say a lot if the class action against their own site caused it to crash. If they erase my complaint. File a new one.

We Won!!!

To all who made calls to Wal-Mart corporate in response to my previous post on Sports Illustrated, THANK YOU! In response to my post and a lot of other concerned patrons, employees, and parents, Wal-Mart has issued a directive to move all Sports Illustrated magazines from the checkout lanes.

Vets for Freedom: Vets on the Hill III

As a Co-captain for Vets for Freedom in Ohio, I had the great opportunity to go to Vets on the Hill III in support of General Petraeus! I have to say that the mood in September was one of urgency and alarm, as even close allies seemed to be hedging their bets with their comments to us, but after scouring the halls of the Senate and House office buildings, I have to say that it seems that most of the supporters we talked to actually believed in the victory we spoke about and the non-supporters were hedging their bets as not to have victory blow up in their faces. The only thing worse for the left than degrading our troops in wartime is for us to actually be victorious while they degraded the troops because then, unlike Vietnam, they will have no excuse!

At the rally in the morning, John McCain spoke, a friend of mine said that he did much better than he has done with teleprompters as of late. He did really well, he feels it, of course he was there when we came to support them the last time in September too. Sen. Lindsay Graham had one of the best quotes, "Al Quaeda wants you to leave because you're kicking their a$$"

Senator Inhofe from Oklahoma had a moveing speech about a Soldier who was recently killed, in fact was being buried in Arlington that day, one of his last letters to his father stated, "You couldn't pay me enough to come home right now."

My congressman from Tennessee, Zach Wamp, gave his passionate rendition of John Stuart Mill:

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” h/t This Aint Hell

After that we spent the rest of the day visiting the Ohio delegation. Senator Voinovich did want to meet with us. We ran into Senator Sherrod Brown , in a hat tip to the NEW D strategy, he admitted that it was a fact that we were making military progress in Iraq. This means that the Dems will now focus on the "political" progress of Iraq, of course the irony of a congress which has devoted much of its success to naming post offices, leaving us blind with intelligence, and spending most of their time on witch hunts in the White House, actually lecturing another legislative body on how they need to conduct themselves is interesting in itself.

It was a great day. I thank all the Congressman who actually took the time to meet with us. Because the first vote wasn't until 6, most Congressmen didn't fly in until late, but some actually flew in earlier, just so they could meet with us! I consider that an honor.

Thank you.

Thank You Charlton Heston

I was thinking this morning and two things came to mind. First, we don't spend enough time thanking large icons enough when they are alive. Second, I hope that my contribution is one which is worthy of the one whose passing we now mourn.

I watched the Emperor's Club (No...not THAT Emperors Club) the other night, man I love Netflix, and it talked pointedly about what is our contribution, at the beginning of the movie one of the main characters reads a plaque that has a quote from an unknown dictator who had achieved greatness in his own mind (conquest and territory), however, it is pointed out that he is in no history books why?:
Great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance. What will your contribution be? How will history remember you?
To me, as a member of the NRA and a fan, will remember Charlton Heston for two things: First is his contribution to the pro-gun movement. His "From my cold dead hands" quote was pithy, but at the same time embodied the passion that a lot of us gun owners really feel for our firearms. He also was a bold face for the NRA at a time when that is what we needed.

Second, in his protrayal of classic characters Ben Hur and Moses, he embodied a deep sense of genuine male strength. In a day and age when male strength is neither accepted nor appreciated, this lasting example through film will serve the younger generation well.

In short, thank you Charlton Heston! May God grant us the strength to ensure that, even now, they will not take your rifle! To his family, our love and prayers go out to you as well.

Sports Illustrated: Is This Appropriate? (Warning: Not Suitable for Children)

These pictures were taken from my local Wal-Mart. I think that they are very inappropriate, as you can see the incap was right next to the Pokemon and sports cards. Fortunately, the manager agreed that they were inappropriate, but said that he protested but was told that they had to wait for home office to give them permission NOT to display them. To his credit he did have them moved down the row…however, still on an incap by a register where they are in plain site of families who just want to check out at Wal-Mart. I think we have a duty to let the home offices and corporate know that they need to tell the stores NOT to display this soft porn…the pictures are blurry, but you seriously don’t need much of an imagination as a 10 year old boy…as a former 10 year old boy who was introduced to pornography via incap magazines, this has a special place in my heart…it is bad enough that any child can purchase these, they are displayed to entice the innocents…and flipping the magazine over won’t work either…it is a 6 model bikini layout caressing a beer bottle ad. Are these really appropriate? I know it may seem small, but like I have said, I was that 10 year old boy.

I Thought There Was Hope????

So, I am sitting here listening to Obama and I have got to tell you the fiery angry Obama has arrived! I new it was just a matter of time. He had some good lines about the straight talk express' wheels coming off. But then he went into this anti-Bush tirade and then started going into POLICY?? Of course all I got out of it was that we are giving students money (40k) to "learn a foreign language?" I also learned that we could have invested in our schools instead of Iraq, my wife correctly pointed out that he should ask Oprah about investing in our schools since even she didn't see fit to do so. I also learned that we need to forget about 9-11, rape Exxon-Mobil, and we have to raise taxes because that is the right thing to do. The good news for all of us is that his politics of hope can only go so far before he has to start opening up his mind to go along with his "heart." The McCain campaign needs to constantly start talking about where is the beef? Where are the policies? A good script might go something like this.

"In his years in the Senate, we have know through John McCain's proven leadership where he stands on X-issue. He stands for X. He voted X times for X. But where does Obama stand...will he stand for X, will he save our Nation, do we know where he stands? Do you?"

He has to run these for a solid two months until Obama starts talking...then...then his liberalism will start to show. This has to be about a contrast of issues, if it becomes about age or hope, McCain is done.

Watching History

I was at CPAC and because of security, everyone who wanted to wait for Mitt to speak had been crammed in there early. NOBODY knew what we were about to hear. We were standing and cheering...BUT then he said I know that you WOULD all fight with me to the convention! Stunned...like when Nebraska fough Florida State for the national championship and we came soooo close but wide left...like when I was eleven on a paper route with my dad when they called the election for a little known governor from Arkansas...they faces of everyone as we stood there in disbelief was amazing...blindsided...what now? Where do we go? I will write more later...until then...tired of watching history? Be a part of it.

We Will NEVER Surrender!

The modern conservative movement has been struggling along for sometime, but I am pleased to announce the creation of the Cincinnatus Coalition. It is a group of concerned grassroots activists who demand values and leadership within the modern conservative movement. The coalition does not aim to replace any established organizations, its goal is a synergy group that connects citizen leaders, the conservative base, conservative organizations, and conservative consultants. If you have any suggestions or ideas, feel free to email us at [cincinnatus25 at gmail dot com]. Below are the different segments of the coalition and what they do.

The Cincinnatus Project is designed to organize Cincinnatus leaders in every precinct in all fifty states.

Cincinnatus Statesmen is a group of elected representatives and conservative leaders who are nominated by members of the coalition as individuals who are worth working for, donating to, and voting for on election day.

Cincinnatus Allies is a list of conservative organizations, nominated by members, who are actively working to spread the conservative message.

Cincinnatus Professionals is a list of conservative consultants who are known for honestly working for and pushing conservative candidates. A list of people that aspirants to become Cincinnatus Statesmen can turn to and trust to help them get elected to truly effect conservative change.

The Cincinnatus Think Tank is a paid forum where conservative grassroots activists can gather and talk and work towards REAL solutions towards our nation's problems. The solutions that are devised are published on a quarterly or yearly basis in the Cincinnatus Solutions Book.

Cincinnatus Blogs is a list of links to the most influential of the modern conservative movement's blogs.

Suicidal Elephants

Ronald Reagan famously stated that he didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left him. Let this be a stearn warning to the establishment regarding the conservative block. I would never leave the Republican Party, so please...please don't leave me.

Before I get some nasty comments about how I am not supporting a war hero, may I remind those reading that I myself am an Iraqi War Veteran. I have never been a big fan of McCains and I always thought I would have to eventually write this, but I always thought I would have to put in the usual niceties of "while he is a man of honor" "while he is a man of unquestionable integrity" unfortunately, I don't feel compelled to write that. That said, nominating McCain would be akin to the elephant commiting suicide. While this may be a stretch, why doesn't the Democratic Party entertain nominating Robert Byrd for President? Because the black caucus is an overwhelming constituency for the Democrat Party. Why then, is it so outrageous to sit here and condemn 72 year old liberal who happens to be the reason we have the term RINO in the first place. I don't get a vote until March 4th, when Ohio votes, but I will say that I am tired of the elitist Republican Washington establishment trying to decide for us what denotes a conservative or not. For those Congressmen or Senators who are deciding to sit this one out and "not get their hands dirty," if you truly value conservative thought or your conservative base, jump in the game. If you endores McCain, explain to us why he really is a conservative and why we are wrong, don't just give us some platitudes about his war service. If you don't endorse Romney, why don't you think he is the one to be a standard bearer for the next generation. If you don't have answers, then your political expedience is as bad as McCain's dishonesty about Romney.

Speaking of which, for someone who talked about "I want the President in the best way, not the worst way" in 2000, a lot has changed in 8 years. Ann Coulter does a good job taking him to task on this so I won't go into it. Also, the great one Mark Levin offers this.     Of course Hugh Hewitt offers this, all respected conservatives, great arguments, all saying the same thing...

We are nearing a precipice for the modern conservative movement. Will we jump? And if we don't, will the Republican party still be standing there next to us? Only time will tell.

Pro-Life Not Allowed?

At work, I was doing some work, when I got a question about when Roe v. Wade passed. I try to get on the National Right to Life website because they are my main source for pro-life information. At work we are allowed to look up various issues on our computer, let me be clear on that. What I got, surprised me...I got a "site not allowed due to political opinion/gruesome images" message.Alright, I thought, they must not want any abortion topics discussed. So, I did the most logical thing and when to NARAL's site. Came right up. Hmmm...now, I am not suggesting that there is a disconnect in policy that would prevent me from signing up for the pro-life movement but permit me to sign up for the other side...but it kind of makes you think.

Word of Advice for Romney

Ok...first I will give deference to a good friend from New Hampshire-> I was wrong.

I have two good friends in Iowa. One is a Evangelical Christian from the Rural west. One is a reformed Catholic who gives more deference to fiscal issues than "pesky" social ones. I knew that the western friend would most likely be in Huckabee's camp. A call at six yesterday evening confirmed this. By my reasoning if my other friend was for Romney, the count would be tight. I called and to my surprise, he was swinging for Huck. At that point, I knew what the Nation would find out a few hours later. I turned to my wife and said..."Huckabee is going to rock..." It is with this in mind, that I am certain that the only way that Romney can overcome this...is to stop going negative. As a consultant, I don't mind contrast ads. BUT when one person's positivity is on the verge of surreal (read Huckabee and Obama). Constantly barraging them with negatives over and over is depressing. Will it stop? Romney has said no! and judging by his front man at Townhall Hugh Hewitt the chances of that tone dwindling isn't coming anytime soon. Seriously...after reading Hugh's hodgepodge, I am giving the "Huckster" another look just out of being pissed off by the negativity myself. What is the point of being negative? If you really have something to sell...if you have a message of betterment of lives...then why do you need to constantly "contrast" your efforts with your opponents?

Let's not forget, the betterment of people's lives is why we are all in this business of conservatism in the first place. Too often we come across as people who don't care about people and their lives. This is a dangerous line of thinking. We do care, in fact we care more than liberals. Just as a parent who does not spoil their children really loves them more than the parent who lets their children run the house. However, we embrace the negativity and the cruelty of our positions instead of the optimism and the hope that we bring. Handouts from the government are horrid and entitlements need trimmed...but where is the emphasis on the fact that conservatives give more to charity than their liberal counterparts and that non-governmental charities are more efficient and cheaper investments in helping the impoverished and effecting real change in those soul's lives. There isn't. Now...I am not a huge fan of "compassionate" conservatism or big government conservatism because it really doesn't help people and it really doesn't show care for anyone they are trying to help. In fact it is just a veiled attempt to spoil voters and buy votes. BUT we still must show compassion and care. Yes, we don't just give out the monies because it is being screamed for, but when they do get the money from the private source it was more effective and care was better given. That has to be our message and can't be lost. Because if that isn't our message, whoever the Republican nominee will be will lose. Because nobody wants to vote for a scrooge.

Romney better start speaking about how he can better lives or else a historical footnote he quickly will become.

Profiles of Freedom's Embrace: Tim Tebow

This story was sent to me by the Family Research Council...

Heisman Winner Makes Forward Progress on Life

<http://www.frc.org/img/item/WA07L20_NORMAL.jpg>

According to his mom, football sensation Tim Tebow came very close to missing his run at the Heisman Trophy. Pam Tebow says it wasn't because of his performance, but because her doctors had advised the couple to abort him.

Back in the '80s, when she and her husband Bob were in the mission field, Pam was diagnosed with a medical condition that could only be treated with drugs that risked harming her unborn child. To avoid "irreparable damage" to her baby, doctors suggested that she abort the future Heisman winner. She refused. Today, Pam, Bob, and the entire University of Florida football team are glad she didn't. Despite the doctor's prediction, Tim was born completely healthy--and remains so. In his acceptance speech for the Heisman, Tim said, "I just (want) to first start off by thanking my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave me the ability to play football, gave me a great family and support group..." Sadly, not every unborn child is as fortunate as Tim. For every baby like him, whose parents embrace the gift of life, there are countless others whose lives are ended before they begin, all in the name of "choice." Of the 49 million who never lived to realize their potential, imagine the number of future leaders, inventors, doctors--and, yes, even Heisman trophy winners--among them. We are grateful to the Tebow family for sharing their testimony and pray that it helps persuade other women of the inherent value of their unborn children and the great promise that lies within.
