I was thinking this morning and two things came to mind. First, we don't spend enough time thanking large icons enough when they are alive. Second, I hope that my contribution is one which is worthy of the
one whose passing we now mourn.
I watched the
Emperor's Club (No...not
THAT Emperors Club) the other night, man I love
Netflix, and it talked pointedly about what is our contribution, at the beginning of the movie one of the main characters reads a plaque that has a quote from an unknown dictator who had achieved greatness in his own mind (conquest and territory), however, it is pointed out that he is in no history books why?:
Great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance. What will your contribution be? How will history remember you?
To me, as a member of the NRA and a fan, will remember Charlton Heston for two things: First is his contribution to the pro-gun movement. His
"From my cold dead hands" quote was pithy, but at the same time embodied the passion that a lot of us gun owners really feel for our firearms. He also was a bold face for the NRA at a time when that is what we needed.
Second, in his protrayal of classic characters Ben Hur and Moses, he embodied a deep sense of genuine male strength. In a day and age when male strength is neither accepted nor appreciated, this lasting example through film will serve the younger generation well.
In short, thank you Charlton Heston! May God grant us the strength to ensure that, even now, they will not take your rifle! To his family, our love and prayers go out to you as well.
